Tackling School Bullying

School bullying is a pervasive phenomenon. Do you know that 1 in every 5 primary school students could be a victim of school bullying? 

School bullying manifests itself in various forms. As the number of school bullying incidents being reported increases, it becomes ever more important to tackle it effectively and efficiently. There is no proven method thus far to eliminate school bullying. However, Dr Cheung Hoi Shan, an assistant professor in developmental psychology, has shared her views on possible methods to mitigate the impacts of bullying on victims: power of peers and empathy training. She has mentioned that the influence of peers should not be overlooked as a study has shown that attachment to peers could help to buffer the effects of bullying and victimisation. Additionally, studies have shown that high levels of empathy could potentially reduce incidences of bullying at school.
