Other Ongoing Exhibitions
Medium at Large (April 2014 – April 2015)
Medium at Large is a year-long exhibition at Singapore Art Museum (SAM) and exposes students to the rich expanse of materials that contemporary artworks can be made of, and from. The artwork media here include oil paint, rattan, human hair, whitening soap, live bullet shells and ‘dematerialised’ media like sound, language and text.
Art has long been classified by genres and disciplines, such as painting, sculpture, and photography. In Medium at Large, students will also learn about how contemporary art often resists the confines of traditional definitions and behave in genre-bending ways, where a painting may slide into video or a video performs like drawing and a drawing is painterly.
Medium at Large draws mostly from SAM’s permanent collection, and also includes loans and commissions from Singaporean, Southeast Asia, and Asian artists. So join us in an exciting adventure to learn about the nature of art’s medium, at large!
Still Moving – A Triple Bill on the Image (October 2014 – February 2015)
Still Moving - A Triple Bill on the Image is a three-in-one exhibition that focuses on the nature of the image as explored in the art of photography and new media.
Organised and co-curated by SAM, the three exhibitions at the museum are in partnership with the Singapore International Photography Festival, Deutsche Bank, and the Yokohama Museum of Art respectively. Join us in a thought-provoking tour in the first two exhibitions – AfterImage and Time Present.
